Children and Young Persons Services

Enhanced Care provides specialist residential children’s care services for children and young people in Gateshead, County Durham and Teesside. Its services have been built to the highest standards with the most modern amenities. Each child will always have their own private facilities. The locations of the services have been chosen especially to provide a choice between rural and urban surroundings.

Environment

Our focus is to provide a safe environment with a stabilising and nurturing environment for our young people. As a result, each young person will have a comfortable bedroom with an en-suite. Which they can personalise and make their own. We also provide solo-placement rooms with their own 24-hour care when necessary. Accordingly, staffed by highly qualified children’s mental health care professionals. Alongside the Local Authority to make a comprehensive, personalised plan for each individual’s needs covering everything, including emotional, psychological, behavioural and social needs.

Education

 When possible, the children or young people are educated in a local authority educational placement in line with their age and educational needs.

Emotional Behavioural Disorder

We have services for Children with Emotional Behavioural Difficulties  (EBD) in Gateshead, Durham and Middlesbrough. These services provide residential and therapeutic support to those suffering from EBD and other mental health, emotional, psychological, behavioural and social problems. Also known as Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD), Emotional Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) is a learning difficulty that goes hand in hand with emotional and behavioural problems suffered by children and young people. Perhaps for those who self-harm, have been sexually exploited, or have destructive and aggressive behaviours.

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them. Autism is a spectrum condition, which means that while all people with autism share specific difficulties, their condition will affect them differently. Some people with autism can live relatively independent lives. However, others may have accompanying learning disabilities and need a lifetime of specialist support.

Our Autism Spectrum Disorder residential children’s care services are in Tyneside and County Durham in the North East of England.

Children Leaving Care

We support young people who have been in social care and are now moving on to the next stage of their young adult life. As a result, we work closely with local authorities for children leaving care in Newcastle, Sunderland, North and South Tyneside, Gateshead, County Durham, Northumberland in the North East of England and across the UK, looking after children and young people aged 16 to 18. Our primary focus areas are accommodation for children leaving care and support for children leaving care.

Sunningdale is centrally located in Middlesbrough, with good transport links to the town centre and surrounding areas. Within walking distance are shops, local cafes and restaurants, parks, colleges and training centres.

  • The modern refurbished accommodation for children leaving care includes:
  • Ten, one bedroom flats – with separate kitchen, lounge, bathroom
  • Two two-bedroom apartments – with separate kitchens, lounge and bathrooms.

Assessment And Support For Children And Families

Woodstone is conveniently located only three miles from Junction 63 of the A1M, with good transport links to Sunderland, Gateshead and Durhan town centres and the surrounding Chester le Street area.
It serves the greater areas of Durham, Northumberland and North Yorkshire.

All the facilities and bedrooms are built around a central courtyard providing a quiet, secure environment. Apart from the accommodation listed above, communal facilities are available, including a specially designed nursery.

Care and support is focused on the skills necessary for parents to correctly and compassionately care for babies and small children. The normal stay would be for a planned twelve weeks when a formal assessment will be carried out in conjunction with Local Authority Children’s Social Workers.

Woodstone provides support to enable a smooth transition into the wider community. It also emphasises the value of self-sufficiency in cooking and household budgeting.

Specialist, post-assessment, support and use of the facilities can be provided anytime in self-contained, one-bedroom flats.

Working with local authorities, Woodstone provides a high standard of accommodation according to the needs of each baby. Care is by planned admission, and the duration of the placement is subject to their individual needs and the consideration of the Local Authority.
